In Windows 11, Microsoft replaced the News & Interests feature with widgets that you can access by clicking the widget icon on the taskbar. In a way, Widgets in Windows 11 is the polished version of News & Interests, except it doesn’t show the weather info on the taskbar.
A significant percentage of Windows 10 users did not like the news and interests and turned it off. But some users love the feature and wish they had the same in Windows 11.
For starters, unfortunately, Windows 11 doesn’t offer an official way to display weather information on the taskbar. You can check the weather and news by clicking the widget icon on the taskbar. You can also use the built-in Weather application to view the weather details, but you must also open the application and click the Weather application icon on the taskbar to view the weather information. What if you want to display the weather information on the Windows 11 taskbar?
Now that Windows 11 doesn’t offer a way to display weather information on the taskbar, you can turn to third-party tools to get the job done. Unfortunately, there aren’t many programs for the job, but there’s a pretty good one.
Use Weather Bar (free) to display weather info on Windows 11 taskbar
Weather Bar is a free program designed to display weather information in the notification area of the taskbar. As you can see in the image below, it’s not quite as pretty as the News & Interests weather widget in Windows 10, but it gets the job done without a hitch.
Once installed, Weather Bar displays the temperature on the systray. You can click on it to open the drop-down menu, which shows more information about the weather. The program obtains weather information from OpenWeatherMap.
To configure the location and options for accessing preferences, you can right-click the icon and click the option you want.
Please note that Weather Bar was released in 2018 and has not been updated since. That said, it has no compatibility issues with Windows 11. So you can go ahead and install the same.
As you can see in the image below, the only drawback is that you are using a white colored font with a black outline which is not noticeable when using the default light color theme. As a workaround, you can make the Windows 11 taskbar black.
Use WeatherBug to display weather on Windows 11 taskbar
WeatherBug is a proven weather information software available for smartphone and computer operating systems. In addition to getting weather information, you can also configure it to display weather information in the notification area.
Tip: If you don’t mind displaying weather information on the Windows 11 desktop instead of the taskbar, you can use programs like the hugely popular Rainmeter.
